‘Passy Pete’ Prediction

Passy Pete is the nautical New England lobster equivalent of the much beloved Punxsutawney Phil, the weather predicting groundhog of Pennsylvania. The first groundhog prediction was back in 1886. Legend says if he sees his shadow, winter will continue for another six weeks. But if he doesn’t, it will be an early spring.

Passy Pete comes forth from the cool waters of Penobscot Bay to make his prediction every Labor Day! Beginning in 2015, the Belfast Barons are the official handlers of Passy Pete and the prediction scrolls. Passy chooses from two scrolls offered to him. Will it be six more weeks of summer or an early winter?

This is a free event open to the public to attend. After the prediction (and a little photo op and press), Passy Pete is released back into Penobscot Bay.

PASSY PETE TELLS ALL! LABOR DAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2025 @ 10AM, Heritage Park, Lower Main Street, Belfast

(Scroll down for this year’s prediction!)

2025 PREDICTION:

Friends of Belfast!

Now, this First Day of September, Labor Day, in the year Two Thousand and Twenty-five, being the Elevnth Annual meeting of the Belfast Barons Club at Heritage Park…

Passy Pete, the clairvoyant crustacean, was coaxed from the fertile waters of the Penobscot Bay at 10am by his friends and fellow tourist lovers “The Belfast Barons” and by the cheers of his adoring fans and followers….

Pete winked to the crowd, glanced toward the loving waters of his home and Majestically in Lobsterese, he directed the Barons to the proper scroll which reads:

Pete has friends who are squidish,

And friends who are oysterous.

He knows of the silent depths,

And the shallows, quite boisterous.

But it is Belfast he loves,

And he’s a relative new comer.

Pete is thrilled to tell us,

We will have 6 more weeks of summer!
