The Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes Chris W. Nickerson to their Board of Directors. Nickerson is the founder of Whale’s Tooth Ventures, LLC, a restaurant and hospitality holding and advisory services company.
Nickerson, and wife and business partner Martha Nickerson, own and operate the Whale’s Tooth Pub, an oceanfront restaurant in Lincolnville, as well as The Northport Inn & Lodge in Belfast, whose mission is to provide housing for working professionals. The Inn is also home to Baked Inn Maine, an artisan baking kitchen where Martha prepares fresh desserts and breads for local establishments, including the Whale’s Tooth Pub.
Prior to current entrepreneurial ventures, Nickerson spent 30 years in Corporate America, holding executive committee-level roles as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for BlueVoyant, a global cyber security company, as well as CHRO for TriMark, the country’s largest commercial restaurant design-build company. Prior to these roles, Nickerson was a global Human Resources executive for blue chip companies IBM, Merck, PwC and American Express.
Nickerson has spent time in countries such as Israel, England, Spain, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, China and Japan, focusing much of his time on talent management, any organization’s most critical asset. Earlier career experience includes ten years in management consulting where he helped evaluate, acquire, and assimilate several companies for Venture Capital and Private Equity firms.
Nickerson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking and Economics, a Master’s degree in Business with a focus in Real Estate, and has completed select post graduate studies in Organizational Change & Development.

The Arts in the Park Event Committee is pleased to announce Heléna Melone of Datura Arts as the 2023 Artist of the Year!
As both a visual artist and a dancer, Heléna’s work is rooted in the seasonal rhythms of mid-coast Maine: seasonal, diurnal, lunar, tidal, and heartbeat. The form of her visual art is inspired by Japanese Shinto scrolls, and its content is inspired by the natural world around us as it transforms throughout the year.
Painting on silk, a canvas that moves with every breath and gesture, she seeks to mirror the evanescence of life, evoke the magic of encounters with the other-than-human world, and remind us of our interconnectedness. The potent beauty and vitality of the landscape around us comes to life in all her creations: silk paintings, wearables, home décor and more.
